we found ourselves back down in los angeles last week, meeting with the man behind the curtain at undefeated: none other than eddie cruz himself.
hashing out design details of the new store in san francisco, eddie took time out to pose for this pic at the nerve center of the undtfd creative vortex: his desk.
a true pleasure bouncing ideas around with such a thoughtful, respectful and sharp dressed man.
look for the SF store to open sometime in mid to late july.
if one were to guess, the images of these monuments could very easily be mistaken as those from a distant planet in a galaxy far, far way.
not so much. these structures were commissioned by former yugoslavian president josip broz tito in the 1960s and 70s to commemorate sites where WWII battles took place or where concentration camps stood.
they were designed by different sculptors and architects (dušan džamonja, vojin bakić, miodrag zivković, jordan and iskra grabul, bogdan bogdanović, gradimir medaković, to name a few), conveying powerful visual impact to show the confidence and strength of the socialist republic.
in the 1980s, these monuments attracted millions of visitors per year, especially young pioneers for their "patriotic education".
after the republic dissolved in early 1990s, they were completely abandoned, left on their own without any historical context.
an amazing amount of work by the talented form3 crew condensed into one post.
seems a shame.
many thanks to derek, anthony, monica, carlos, michael, sean, ivan and alberto for all the effort and hard work they've put in the past few weeks. there's absolutely no way we could do what we do without the dedicated commitment and talent you all provide.
well done.
many thanks to mega and alfred for trusting in us to dial this in and get it right in such a short period of time.
black scale LA is set to open this weekend.
...and our frequent flyer miles are out of control!
as we're moving forward on the black scale project in los angeles, we've used the talents of quite a few different people in order to meet the required deadline of mid June.
when mega asked for some detail in the legs for the main display table and the point of sales counter, we called on the services of michael cullen, an amazing designer and fine woodworker in our own backyard of petaluma.
A phone call, a quick meeting, a couple sketches and 72 hours later, michael produced eight legs that will help define the space inside 128 s. la brea.
truly amazing work and an even more amazing turnaround.
with an emphasis on sustainable practices and formal elements of structure and material, we create distinctive, modern environments for clients on an individual basis.
