time won't give me time

if you find yourself with an extra 100 minutes on a free

day in the near future, you couldn't do much better than

planting your ass in front of the big screen, watching

hot tub time machine. it's not the most intellectual movie
of the year, but it's not the worst, either. (the end credits
alone are worth the admission.)

chris took these pics at the boulevard cinemas as we laughed

our way through this ridiculous romp. this is definitely

not for everyone, so all you total douchers should go see

we're on a mission

the delicate nature and history of the missions in california
isn't without controversy, but they stand as a testament to
the simplicity of building with available materials, if nothing
else.

chris took her niece, janelle, to the mission san francisco
solano in sonoma last week for a class assignment and
took these photos. the mission was the last and northern
most mission in california.

the streets of san francisco

we were interviewed a couple years ago by bryan kelly
of prairie mod and he asked what inspires us in our design
process. living in the san francisco area, it's easy to 

understand how, in part, we answered this question: 

architecture and natural surroundings. even before making 

this area our home base, it's always been true. (it's just so 

obvious in such an unbelievably dynamic city as SF.)

these are photos chris took as she was floating into the
ferry building on the wharf last week: coit tower on the right
and the william pereira-designed transamerica tower on the
left. the upper photo is the bay bridge heading between
oakland and SF.

we LOVE this city.

put the bunny back in the box

we all have our own interpretations concerning the

iconic nature of the big, overhyped holidays. this is

a big, overhyped artist's (jeff koons) meditation on

the rabbit.

(gloria steinem as a playboy bunny was a close second.)

late edition

not the most flattering photo in the entire world, but it does

represent how the cold bug i picked up on vacation has a hold

on me. trying to maintain with vitamin C and some serious

TV watching. thankfully, the ncaa tournament comes on later

today and i can veg out on some basketball.

my picks? they've already been bounced, so my allegiance

is with the big ten: tom izzo and michigan state.

this has been the late edition with a solid assist from photo booth.

burrito style points

a pleasant surprise while on vacation was the design of

blanco restaurant in tucson. thoughtful craftsmanship and

full of intention, this place is coordinated down to the

color of the hostess' dress. FORS architecture of tucson

did a great job creating a space that maintains a unique,

singular voice without feeling over-designed.

if you find yourself in the catalina foothills, stop in and tell

them form3 sent you. it won't do you any good, because

they have no idea who we are, but i can tell they'll play it

like they do.

motel slick

after having been on a little vacation myself recently, i was

pleased to read this article in the ny times about motel 6

and other discount motels revisiting their concept of interior

design.

if this is the direction we're heading in terms of discount

hotels, i'm feeling good about visiting my home state of

iowa later this year.
