tell me more

after seeing the t-shirt design we did for the olde sonoma public
house, the good folks at the william tell needed to get in on the
action.

we've been mocking up this new crest for them and it looks
as if they've settled on this design.

look for the t-shirts and trucker caps to be hanging behind the bar
by next weekend.

stool sample

simple. honest. clean. minimal. what other words describe our
kitchen counter stool?

awesome? yeah, that might work.

using reclaimed douglas fir that was milled in 1905 from the
northern california coast, no doubt this old-school wood has
a few stories under its belt. one of it's favorite? how it got a
second life as this stool and has been admired by thousands.

all those adjectives describing this stool? they come from
proud owners of this stylishly handsome form3-designed piece.

that's right, stylishly handsome!

upscale

many thanks to ryan and ruben at black scale for helping
get the new benches in place over the weekend. when we
built these, we weren't thinking so much about the degree
of difficulty angling them up the staircase to the second floor.
with not an inch to spare, we were successful and are now
focused on the next phase of the design: the new shelving
units.

(there's no doubt we've already made adjustments in our
fabrication strategy with the staircase in mind.)

grass kicking

still somewhat disappointed in andy roddick's early departure from
the grass courts at the all england club, the thought of watching
tomas berdych against rafa nadal didn't hold all that much interest.

what does rafa do about it? wins easily in straight sets for a
thoroughly uninteresting and forgettable wimbledon final.

you have to respect nadal's amazing talents and it's an intimidating
prospect to attempt to dismantle the strengths of his outstanding
game. good luck to anyone who even comes close.

bridging the gap

having been to the milwauke art museum shortly after its
opening back in 2002, we we're excited to hear about santiago
calatrava's commission from the small city of redding, ca a few
years back. one of the most sculpturally-minded architects working
today, he created a perfect mix of engineering and art to create
the sundial bridge over the sacramento river.

every now and then we take a road trip up to redding in order to
spend a little time hanging out on the grounds at turtle bay around
this magnificently designed structure.

it's an absolutely inspirational experience.

seeing red

we took a quick trip to monterey county for a meeting the other
day and afterward stopped in one of our favorite bars to have a
cocktail on the west coast: the red room in santa cruz. filled with
classic elements that provide an authentic old school atmosphere,
the red room boasts an impressive collection of former miss
california portraits from bygone days.

if you find yourself on the corner of cedar and locust on the edge
of downtown, you're in the right spot for a classic experience.

form3 calling

with all the hundreds of thousands of software applications, one
of our favorite, by far, is skype. it allows us the opportunity to
keep in touch with our good friends in different parts of the world
and actually see their smiling faces. (at no charge).

last night chris used skype to wish one of her all time best
friends, and fellow SMFA alumna, a happy birthday. kristen has
been living in singapore the past few years with her husband
michael and darling son, oliver. former new yorkers who we'd
see on a semi-regular basis, we don't get a chance to visit like
we used to except on the magical computer screen. it'll have to
do for now, as michael's work with deutche bank keeps him
busy traveling around the world.

a very happy birthday, again, to kristen. we hope to see her (in
person) soon.
