set just east of the iconic intersection of hollywood and vine, the metro portal and plaza situates itself on a highly trafficked block on one of the world’s most famous stretches of urban streetscape. rios clementi hale studios did a great job with their simple approach to the commission. they created a covered entryway for an existing metro subway stop, and an engaging plaza surrounding it.
and to think this area used to be nothing less than completely seedy no more than ten years ago.
these are images from a couple weeks ago as we were fabricating the vanity for the bathroom project in petaluma.
we used the reclaimed redwood we've been working with all year so the piece blends into the floor. we actually matched the color and grain running up the side of this piece to those of the floor boards.
why?
because even if we're the only ones who consciously understand what we did, we'll know it was executed with intention.
we haven't forgotten about this little project in petaluma. (we've just been working on a couple other projects with tighter deadlines.)
as of yesterday, the new electrical is all in place, walls are closed up and painted and the floor has another protective coat applied.
the new vanity is built and ready to place early next week, so the fine couple waiting so patiently on this can quit brushing their teeth in the kitchen sink.
