bond. kbond

back in 2001, we had the opportunity to do some of our first
retail design work as the team that has become form3. we
never quite got the chance to document the installation work
properly and are just now creating images based on our
original designs for the seminal west hollywood project
where it all started for us: kbond. the architectural firm,
janson goldstein, was hired by owners karen kimmel and
james bond to renovate the entire first floor of the building,
providing striking views of the interior from beverly blvd.
we were brought in by kbond project leader petra larsen to
coordinate display and installation art that ultimately led to
some of our favorite work we've been involved with. we've
always seen this project as the beginning of the beginning
for us and are thankful to karen, james and petra for
giving us the opportunity to be involved with such a forward
thinking retail project.

king of clay

it's beyond impressive to watch what this man can do on a clay
court. what should be cross court winners by his opponent are
effortlessly returned, it seems, with an amazing amount of
precision and force to turn the tide of a point and the game.
healthy and confident again, rafael nadal waltzed through the
french open final this morning in straight sets, raising his
overall record at
roland garros to an unbelievable 38-1.

since last year's lost in the quarterfinals, he has dedicated
himself to overcoming injury and improving upon an already-
blistering game of tennis. that type of perseverance and
commitment stands as a testament to a work ethic that doesn't
allow for excuses and produces the winning results he has
become so accustomed to.

condolences to robin soderling and all the other players who
find themselves facing nadal or roger federer time and again
in grand slam finals.

L E G E N D

john wooden 1910-2010

anyone who follows basketball even casually knows the
importance and accomplishments of this man. he imparted
not only wisdom concerning the game to his
players, but
wisdom concerning life. he stressed the critical
importance
of teamwork in order to achieve goals on his way to record
a lifetime winning percentage of .808. known as a mild
mannered, thoughtful, considerate person, he was a true
legend in
every respect.

fill in the blank

we continue to consider ways of representing what we design
in ways that maintain a consistency with the way we see the
world. the challenge is to allow people the room to experience
the form3 way of life without asking them to experience the
form3
way of life.

what that means, we're not even sure, but these are images we've
been working on to create a new ad campaign for our furniture
design.

tonight's the night

it's been a fast and furious few weeks in the heart of the sonoma
valley
, getting everything together for the big opening night at the
olde sonoma public house. this is coley and jo's vision come to
life and they couldn't be more excited. they've done an incredible
job putting together 32 taps of fine ales, lambics, lagers, pilsners,
ciders and more from north america, europe and other parts of
the world. you'd be hard pressed to find a better selection in all
the north bay.

thanks goes out to everyone who jumped in to lend a hand these
past few days to get through inspection and get the doors open.
we couldn't have done it without ron, ryan, lynn, paul, matty,
casey and brian adding their invaluable assistance to the project.

so tonight's the night. hope to see familiar faces tipping a pint
and having a good time. you know the form3 crew will be there,
enjoying every minute.

cube squared

we designed two of these pieces, the cube end table , exclusively
for the olde sonoma public house. the owners, coley and jo
thinnes
, gave us free reign on adding a few form3 elements to
the interior and it's turning out nicely. the challenge is to integrate
our modern aesthetic sense into what is more of a fairly classic
public style ale house. so far it's blending together quite well.
we've introduced some subtle walnut elements into the place,
which was already heavy on oak when we came onto the project,
and hope to continue in that direction as everything unfolds.

we've only been working with their team for less than three
weeks, but it's coming together quickly. we may not have
everything in place by tomorrow night's opening, but we hope
to be as close as possible.

the walls abandon shape

although this brilliant effort by radiohead is nearly three years
old, it has been the soundtrack for many of our recent projects
and currently for the drive through marin and sonoma county as
we've been helping out with the final stage of work on the olde
sonoma public house. it's an incredible recording by a band
with an amazing discography and if you haven't listened to it for
a while, put it on the turntable and give it a spin. (phil selway's
drumming is so impressive and understated, he seems to be
forgotten as a solid creative force behind what's so incredible
about this band.) inspirational, to say the least.
