front and center stage

who would've known there was so much vocal talent in such
a small town?

tomales, california? we could have been center stage at the
kodak theatre.

with over 25,000 songs to choose from, the william tell
faithful (and a few unsuspecting visitors) rocked the sh%t
outta the house last night. kat got everybody involved early
and made sure to keep it that way. the form3 crew did our
best to create an atmosphere friendly to testing out those
dormant vocal chords, although we suspect the shots of
jameson had more to do with such a high rate of participation
than our mylar backdrop and xmas lights. thanks to jim and
stephanie
for getting the summer fun under way with one
simple rule: if it was your first night at karaoke, you HAD
to sing.

where it's at

who can resist a microphone in front of a mylar backdrop with
a key light shining upon their sweet little face as their favorite
song is cued up by the coolest karaoke dj in the north bay?

not us.

we shall shred through our songbook like a schoolgirl with
an american idol fixation tonight when we help host the
first ever karaoke night at the william tell in tomales. we
are so stoked to feel the warm incandescent glow after a
special courage drink and have been brushing up on a little
johnny cash + june carter duet to bust out at the perfect
moment.

we made this sign earlier in the week for kat because she
is awesome and deserves an awesome sign.

how awesome is that?

pretty f@%#ing awesome.

faster than a speeding bullet

last fall we got a call from a young couple in los angeles who had
just purchased their first home in the hills of mt. washington.
they had extended themselves somewhat in order to purchase
the home, but still had savings enough to do some redesign
and expansion of the space. unfortunately not enough to
create the addition that would make the home quite impressive,
so we had to figure out a way to create more space without
adding any extra square footage.

form3 to the rescue (with sledgehammers in hand).

after the initial visit, we could see the potential in the structure
and lay of the lot, so we began the design with the idea of
future expansion within the next few years. these photos were
taken after we removed walls in order to extend the space
visually. the couple had previously lived in an old warehouse in
downtown and were keen on open space living with exposed
beams, so we created access to the kitchen more directly and
reconfigured the entrance by removing walls and widened the
hallway leading to the front door.

we never got a chance to document the project fully and will be
doing so fairly soon, although we ran across a few photos of the
project the other day.

more to come, we promise.

depends on the scale

we've been in full production mode on the black scale benches
this past week and look forward to completing them for final
installation.

the design is fairly straight-forward and minimal with dead-on
proportion and simple detail work in order to interact with light.

alfred and mega are going to completely freak when we
deliver on monday. (we hope they're wearing the depends
we sent them in the mail last week.)

bond. kbond

back in 2001, we had the opportunity to do some of our first
retail design work as the team that has become form3. we
never quite got the chance to document the installation work
properly and are just now creating images based on our
original designs for the seminal west hollywood project
where it all started for us: kbond. the architectural firm,
janson goldstein, was hired by owners karen kimmel and
james bond to renovate the entire first floor of the building,
providing striking views of the interior from beverly blvd.
we were brought in by kbond project leader petra larsen to
coordinate display and installation art that ultimately led to
some of our favorite work we've been involved with. we've
always seen this project as the beginning of the beginning
for us and are thankful to karen, james and petra for
giving us the opportunity to be involved with such a forward
thinking retail project.

king of clay

it's beyond impressive to watch what this man can do on a clay
court. what should be cross court winners by his opponent are
effortlessly returned, it seems, with an amazing amount of
precision and force to turn the tide of a point and the game.
healthy and confident again, rafael nadal waltzed through the
french open final this morning in straight sets, raising his
overall record at
roland garros to an unbelievable 38-1.

since last year's lost in the quarterfinals, he has dedicated
himself to overcoming injury and improving upon an already-
blistering game of tennis. that type of perseverance and
commitment stands as a testament to a work ethic that doesn't
allow for excuses and produces the winning results he has
become so accustomed to.

condolences to robin soderling and all the other players who
find themselves facing nadal or roger federer time and again
in grand slam finals.

L E G E N D

john wooden 1910-2010

anyone who follows basketball even casually knows the
importance and accomplishments of this man. he imparted
not only wisdom concerning the game to his
players, but
wisdom concerning life. he stressed the critical
importance
of teamwork in order to achieve goals on his way to record
a lifetime winning percentage of .808. known as a mild
mannered, thoughtful, considerate person, he was a true
legend in
every respect.
