keep it simple, souchi
one of our favorite clothing designers of all time is the
truly simple, organic and flowing forms of souchi, aka
suzi johnson.
having started her knitwear company in san francisco
back in 1997, she now finds herself with production
in los angeles, portland and retail shops in portland
and the charming little mountain town of aspen.
we were recently asked to assist with a full page ad
layout for the upcoming aspen magazine winter shopping
guide.
we decided to keep it simple and let her work speak for
itself.
uh, yeah.
this should work.

tee time
design is an enjoyable diversion from the architectural
and furniture design we execute on a regular basis.
this is a graphic tee shirt we designed for LA-based
UNDEFEATED, intended for a fall roll out.
raiders fans should be all over this.
you're welcome, oakland.

pull up a chair
we continue to create versions of our flagship chair, the plyform, nearly
every year.
this sets sail the fall of 2012 as the plyform 2013.
shown here in select latvian birch veneer and knoll atlas alabaster
upholstery, its minimalist, sleek profile maintains the comfort and durability
one would expect from all our seating.

and it's pretty cool.

surprise party
after nearly three months of absolutely no posts whatsoever, i've
been inspired by one of my all-time favorite bands in the entire universe.
(yes, this includes not only our solar system...but every band recording
within light years of our knowledge.)
the constant creative energy of the members that comprise radiohead
never ceases to amaze me.
the visual representation in the video for no surprises is a shining
example of why these guys have always been one of the most
innovative musical groups of their generation (and beyond).
and it's because of them that i get back on the blog horse and take it for a ride.

you make my heart sing
there's no doubt maurice sendak touched the hearts of millions.
reading his seminal where the wild things are made me feel i
belonged...that everything was going to be alright.
i saw him speak at the minneapolis college of art and design
my sophomore year and was impressed with his directness and
uncompromising honesty.
a true artist. and a true inspiration.

wine if you want to

we had a chance to take a private tour of the property and a library
wine tasting at one of our new favorite wineries in sonoma county
last weekend: williams selyem.
tucked just above the russian river and just below the dry creek
valley, the winery not only creates amazing, world class pinot noirs,
but has also created one of the most architectural compelling
structures in the northern california wine country.
our host, michael traverso, allowed us a glimpse into one of the most
exclusive wineries on the west coast and offered tastes of some of the
best stainless-steel cask chardonnay we've ever had the pleasure of
drinking.
voted winemaker of the year in 2011 by wine enthusiast magazine,
the future is bright for this gem of a winery.
if you feel the urge to visit williams selyem, be sure to set up an
appointment well in advance....their cult status is on the wain.
