this structure proposed for the Opera House in Izmir, Turkey, by the talented architectural design group Nuvist is a brilliant example of honoring the connection between the soul of art and the soul of the structure that houses it.
these are some original designs produced for the fine folks behind gold coin clothing nearly 18 months ago.
we were revisiting some of the projects that didn't quite make it out of the design stages recently and this was one of our favorite.
it was going to be fabricated using reclaimed redwood siding in an interior application and reclaimed black bathroom tile we found at a recycling center that was pulled from a strip mall that had been demolished in santa rosa, ca.
just as the economic conditions were worsening, this project got put on hold.
It doesn't seem that long ago that we we're working with clients that had budgets of a quarter million dollars or so.
these days we're happy to hear someone has a budget of ten or twenty thousand dollars.
it's a challenging time right now for a small business like form3.
we've found ourselves doing more graphic design than ever and are excited about the association we've have with clients who keep us in the loop and busy.
as i'm sure everyone does, we also look forward to a turn around in the economic outlook.
robert voit's series new trees, currently on exhibit at robert morat galerie in hamburg, are images of giant cell-phone towers which he has found around the world with the help of a gps.
the design of these towers are both incredibly appealing in their obviousness and an affront to how we actually care for our forests and appreciate our solitude...give me a signal or give me death! the editors at aperture magazine said it best when they described these as "corporatized versions of vernacular roadside architecture"
the portland area seems to be a hotbed for travel trailers of the 1960's and 70's. these have all been posted for sale within the last week. if my dreams of a trailer park are to come true then portland is my mecca.
we've all heard the story at some point in time about the fact the mcdonald's happy meal that defies decomposition.
these images by photographer sally davies came about when she mentioned to a friend that she had heard of a happy meal that, for twelve years, had done just that.
her friend's advice?
don't believe everything she read.
she decided to find out for herself.
the images show the lack of change in this meal over a six month period: no mold, no rot, no smell, just a plasticized sheen.
if there's not something to do at the william tell saloon, then we're sure the world's coming to an end.
we're back in with both feet as we prepare for the beginning of the end of the busy summer and fall season.
a little bit of this and a little bit of that and we'll be ready for the upcoming winter. more tee-shirts need to be printed. a new sound system needs to be put in. more tables need to be built.
after a less than spectacular summer, a few orders are finding their way into the form3 inbox.
every little bit counts.
these will look wonderful in the little cottage out in the quaint town of inverness along the tomales bay, where they shall live the rest of their lives making joan and jackie very happy.
with an emphasis on sustainable practices and formal elements of structure and material, we create distinctive, modern environments for clients on an individual basis.
